Math
Penny Game for Number Combinations
To play this game, you will need coins and a cup.
Each night you play, choose a different number of coins between 3 and 5.
Put the coins in the cup and pour out. Separate the heads from the tails. Cover up one group with your hand. Have your child identify how many coins they see and how many are hidden under your hand. You may need to remind your child to think about how many coins are in all. Repeat several times with the same number.
Extend this game by playing with numbers beyond 5.
There are a TON of ways to work on addition at home! Make up a story problem and use toys to act it out. (There were three frogs on the lily pad. Two more jumped on. How many frogs are on the lily pad now?). You can also find online games and apps to practice this skill.
